Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after general anesthesia can increase patient risk for important morbidities. Studies have shown that gabapentin, an anticonvulsant known to mitigate the unwanted adverse effects of opioids and improve postoperative pain, may be an effective part of a multimodal approach toward reducing PONV.
