In perioperative setting, precision medicine targets the patient's inherent genetic and environmental variability to achieve an individualized approach to health care, whereas standardized care pathways and protocols aim at decreasing variability of care at the systemic and practitioner level. The current article aims at understanding precision medicine and outlining an implementation procedure in the perioperative setting.
