Abstract

Summary:Athletic problems that involve alteration of position or motion of the scapula on the thoracic wall can create functional symptoms around the scapula itself and are frequently associated with shoulder and arm injuries, owing to the pivotal roles the scapula plays in shoulder and arm function. This chapter discusses the scapular roles in normal shoulder function, alterations in these roles in shoulder dysfunction, and diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of scapulothoracic problems.
