The goal is to keep youth pitchers from injuring themselves during their years of growth. By understanding the injuries, the athletes, parents, coaches, and medical staff can be educated. By identifying the athletes thought to be at risk, a program of resistance training with attention to the rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers in addition to a long toss throwing program may reduce injuries to these adolescent pitchers. Protecting pitchers who are capable of generating greater speeds than their peers from themselves and enthusiastic coaches by counting pitches, delaying throwing a curve ball, slider, and split finger pitches, and adhering to the soreness rules may be equally critical.
