In-office surgery centers (ASCs) can be a lucrative source of revenue for the orthopedic group seeking increased income to offset declining reimbursements. Furthermore, the ASC environment allows surgeons to become dramatically more efficient during the workday. Group management of the ASC allows surgeons to choose desirable employees who provide high-quality patient care under the physician’s supervision. However, there are definite pitfalls that must be avoided when planning and implementing an ASC. This article discusses some of these issues.
