Abstract

Pedal infection is a common sequela of diabetes with many underlying complications related to the nature of the systemic disease, ultimately confounding accurate and expeditious diagnosis. Although the imaging manifestations of diabetic pedal infection can at times be challenging due to underlying complications, including neuropathic arthropathy and vascular disease, imaging often yields accurate diagnoses. Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice in evaluating diabetic pedal infection and knowledge of the secondary signs on magnetic resonance imaging and the typical distribution of osteomyelitis are key in distinguishing osteomyelitis from neuropathic disease.
