Abstract

Compartment syndrome remains a diagnosis that is far more easily to exclude than to confirm. As described in this volume, there are a host of new technologies for monitoring tissue perfusion and physiology that may soon provide a reliable means to diagnose compartment syndrome in its early stages, obviating the need for prophylactic fasciotomy. In the not-to-distant future, compartment should become far more simple to diagnose and treat, avoiding the morbidity commonly associated with this entity today.
