Abstract

Spinal injections have been used in the diagnosis and treatment of low back pain for decades. Despite their major benefit in minimally invasive symptom control, performing physicians should always take the multifactorial genesis of chronic pain into consideration. For a long-lasting effect, treatment of chronic pain should be embedded into a complex interdisciplinary regime. The following article presents an overview of chronic low back pain and its biopsychosocial components and introduces the concept of multimodal therapy for chronic low back pain.
