Abstract

ABSTRACT

The StayFuse™ implant (Pioneer Surgical Technology, Marquette, IN) provides a method of proximal interphalangeal joint arthrodesis that has several advantageous over current methods of lesser toe fusion. After implantation, the implant provides bending as well as rotational stability to the arthrodesis site, eliminates the need for Kirchner wire fixation, and does not require excessive shortening of the toe. Proper patient selection, adequate preoperative planning, close attention to proper surgical technique, and avoidance of complications appear to be essential to achieving a good outcome with this new technique.
