Abstract

The impact of peripheral arterial disease on women is only now being recognized as a significant issue. In this review, we examine the epidemiologic, clinical, and intervention differences that exist between men and women who have this disease. The conclusions are incontrovertible; women are as much at risk for peripheral arterial disease as men, but an insufficient amount of research has been conducted on risk factors, diagnostics, and interventions for women. Recommendations related to women's health and peripheral arterial disease are provided for rehabilitation professionals.
