Abstract

The effect of solvation on the activation parameters of the reaction RH + ROO· → R· + ROOH, where RH is methyl ethyl ketone, has been studied. The increased enthalpy of activation of this reaction in water is not a result of specific solvation of the peroxy radical but is non-specific effect of the solvent as a dielectric continuum.
