Abstract

Bone marrow transplantation is used as treatment for hematologic diseases (malignant and nonmalignant), as well as for some solid tumors and genetic disorders. The medication toxicities and medical complications accompanying transplant can be significant, with most impacting negatively on the patient's intake and nutritional status. This article addresses means of coping with the multiple nutrition-related side effects and the challenges encountered in nutrition assessment and support (enteral and parenteral) of this population.
