Abstract

Most people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) will experience malnutrition at some point during the course of the disease. In an effort to prevent malnutrition, several organizations in the Phoenix, Arizona, area have established programs to provide congregate meals, home-delivered meals, food boxes, nutrition information, and caloric supplements to people infected with HIV. These programs help clients overcome many of the difficulties in acquiring and ingesting adequate calories and other nutrients to maintain an optimal nutritional status.
