Abstract

This article focuses on the personal dynamics of life for older adults who are at risk of becoming homeless, are homeless, or were formerly homeless. It presents older individuals' own concerns and descriptions of the risk of loosing a roof over their heads. Conversations describe what it was like for some to actually find themselves homeless, and they describe some of the factors that led them into homelessness. Interviews provide insight into what it felt like to reside in shelters or on the streets, how individuals became acclimated to this level of existence, and how difficult it was for some to transition from shelter life back to the security of permanent housing.
