Abstract

As obesity has become epidemic, clinicians will see increasing numbers of spinal cord-injured patients who are obese. The added “padding” of obese patients does not protect them, and pressure ulcers are a major concern. This article reviews the physiology of pressure ulcer development. It also reviews the concerns that clinicians have in providing the appropriate care for the bariatric spinal cord-injured individual.
