The loss of one's job is comparable to the loss of a family member and is best managed by investing energy grieving the traumatic loss. As corporations continue to practice downsizing as a means to increase profits at the expense of the welfare of their human resources, more and more people experience unemployment when they are released involuntarily without cause. This paper examines the grieving process and experience of unemployed people, and suggests a solution to benefit the organization and displaced employee. The organization by acting in a socially responsible manner will create good will among its employees and the public.
